Tuscany – Benzone Recipe
1 ½ cup sugar
5 ounces butter
2 ½ cups white flour
1 teaspoon yeast
2 ounces candied citron and orange
Allow the raisins to soak in the water for 10 minutes. Drain the raisins in a small amount of flour will keep them from sinking to the bottom of the pan. In the meantime beat the eggs with sugar in a bowl. Add butter and raisins. In another small bowl, mix the rest of flour and the yeast. Combine all ingredients and add candied citron and orange. If you want make dough more elastic, add 1 teaspoon of milk.
Put the dough in our Happy Day aluminium container. Preheat the oven to 350F for about 50 minutes. Take a toothpick and insert it into the centre of the Benzone to check if it is done. Let cool and serve it.
