What’s circular economy?
A circular economy is an economic system based on three principles: reduce, reuse and recycle. In other words this new concept aims to reduce the input of virgin raw materials, reduce the amount of waste to landfill, and maximize the value and use of products and materials in circulation. In this way, we keep resources in use for as long as possible.
The advantages of circular economy
Circular economy has replaced the traditional concept of linear economy for several reasons. First of all, the demand for raw materials is growing and recycling alone cannot supply the market so we need to switch to a new model of production and consumption. In addition, it can offer a lot of advantages:
- Reduced waste
- Reduced energy consumption
- Reduced water use
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
- Reduce input costs
The importance of aluminium in the circular economy
Aluminium is by nature a circular material. Thatβs why itβs infinitely recyclable, maintaining its original properties no matter how many times it is processed and used. In addition, recycling aluminium saves around 95% of the energy needed to make the metal from raw materials.
